Back in the saddle
Just 6 weeks after getting on the trike, I no longer need the training wheels and I am back on my regular bike. The trike was essential for getting me used to moving along the road without having to worry about my balance. Also, over the last 6 weeks I have made good strides in strengthening my leg such that I can now step off the pedals and stand up at stoplights if I have to. I miss the cargo space of the trike but the single gear made for slow going and the three wheels made horizontal slopes tricky and parking a challenge. But I am glad for the trike because it was a key step in getting me back in the saddle. I feel like my flexibility is not improving much but strength is coming along slowly. I have also ditched the cane. I cannot walk too far before I am worn out, and I have a big limp, but now that I can stand the pain and have the strength, it is time to go for it!
